Best of Week: "Youtubing" Around

Even though this was something that wasn't planned, my favorite thing that we did this week was watching people's favorite YouTube videos. I really like getting to know people and similar to the Do You Mind questions, I feel like doing this helps us get to know one another by what we like to watch on YouTube. Seeing Julia's Andrew Bird and Yo-yo Ma video was really cool and I would have never seen something like that when I was just alone. Also the extreme hotels that we looked were really cool because it was interesting to see how creative people can get when creating something "boring" like a hotel. Overall, this was a fun activity because it opened me up to a world of things I may have never seen if we didn't do this in class.

  1. Stephy,

I completely agree with you and would say that watching YouTube videos is always my favorite thing to do in class. I feel like, even though I would say that I know everyone in the class, I know that that is not entirely true. Well, you could say that I know every body’s name and for most people I could name some people that they hang out with and take a educated guess as to what activities they are involved in, but as for beyond that, I wouldn’t know too much. Sure, a lot of time spent in class is spent between us sharing things with each other, but that still only gives a vague picture. I could not agree with you more that by watching other peoples’ videos, we get to see a better picture of each other.

I know that there have been a lot of things shared in humanities this year – both by Mr. Allen and other students – which I know that if not for the class, I most likely would have never seen. I am appreciative for all the chances we have to share with each other in class and would like to say that even if we did it every day for the rest of the year, I would still probably ask for more.

P.S. I’m glad you liked my video :] I was happy to share it and like knowing that at least one other person liked it too.

  2. I really enjoyed watching YouTube videos in class too. Even though the clips and sites themselves are interesting, I think it's even more interesting to see what people have to share, to be able to see what my classmates are interested in. Even though the activity of watching YouTube videos in class may seem unproductive, I think we were actually able to learn a lot about the humanities and our classmates.
